In 1949 Stanley Kubrick was sent to Chicago by Look Magazine to take photos. Here they are via @theretronaut.

As much as things change, the more they stay the same. Some of this I still see every day downtown…sure the cars are a little rounder and so are the people, but…

“Before he started making movies, Stanley Kubrick was a star photojournalist. In the summer of 1949, Look magazine sent him to Chicago to shoot pictures for a story called “Chicago City of Contrasts.”
